Engagement rate is the ratio of meaningful actions — likes, comments, saves, shares — to either follower count or reach. It is the default quality check marketers apply to creator partnerships because follower count is trivial to fake while engagement rate is harder to spoof. Healthy rates vary by platform: Instagram feed posts average 1-3%, TikTok often above 5%, LinkedIn around 2%.
